The Afro-house queen revealed a love story nobody knew existed. And the internet has not recovered. Niniola has confirmed the death of her husband Michael Ndika after 13 years of a marriage she kept completely private. The Afrobeats world is in shock. Nobody expected this. On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Niniola posted on her Instagram. Story and shook the entire Nigerian entertainment industry. She wrote three short messages.
‘God took him. Then my husband died. ‘ Then the one that broke everyone: ‘God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years.’
Each post came with photos of the couple together. Just like that, a secret nobody knew about became the biggest story in Afrobeats. The man she mourned was Michael Ndika. Her husband. Her manager. The CEO of NaijaReview. In this blog, AfrobeatsGlobal breaks down everything you need to know.
Who Was Michael Ndika? The Man Behind Niniola

Michael Ndika, known as Big Mike in industry circles, was a Nigerian media entrepreneur. He founded NaijaReview in 2011. It became one of the earliest digital platforms dedicated to promoting Afro-house and Afrobeats in Nigeria. He studied computer science at Lagos State University and previously worked as a systems engineer.
In a 2019 interview, Niniola actually mentioned him. She said she co-owns her record label Drumroll Records with her manager Michael Ndika. However, she never confirmed their romantic relationship. The clue was right there all along.
Niniola and Michael Ndika had been together for 13 years. He managed her career, co-owned her label, and built NaijaReview while keeping their marriage completely out of the spotlight.
The Secret Niniola Kept for Over a Decade
This is where it gets even more striking. In October 2025, just seven months before his death, Niniola appeared on Yanga FM Lagos. A caller raised the marriage rumors. She denied everything. She said:
‘I don’t care what anyone says about my personal life. I’m not a 12-year-old. I’m not married. ‘Everyone moved on.
Then May 20 happened. And those words now carry a completely different meaning. Niniola was protecting something real and private. For 13 years, she held that line without slipping once. That level of intentional privacy in Nigerian celebrity culture is almost unheard of.
The Niniola husband death announcement has since drawn condolences from across the Nigerian entertainment industry. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Out of respect, no speculation will be added here.
Our hearts go out to Niniola, her family, and everyone who loved Michael Ndika. The Afrobeats family stands with her in this painful moment.
