What’s Bad If I Listen To Burna Boy, Black Sherif, and More? – Man Of God Sonnie Badu Ask Critics
Sonnie Badu, the founder of Rockhill Chapel and a prominent figure in the gospel music scene, recently stirred discussions when he shared a screenshot of a Spotify Wrapped playlist, showcasing songs by secular artists like Black Sherif, Davido, and Burna Boy.
Addressing the raised eyebrows during a recent episode of United Showbiz hosted by MzGee on UTV, Sonnie Badu clarified that the screenshot wasn’t from his personal account.
He explained that he mistakenly assumed it was a general list of popular songs and not linked to any specific account.
When the error was realized, he promptly apologized for any confusion.
Despite the mix-up, Sonnie Badu defended his appreciation for secular African music, emphasizing that there’s nothing wrong with exploring diverse musical genres.
He highlighted the importance of staying current with the latest trends and drawing inspiration from artists like Burna Boy, Black Sherif, Angelique Kidjo, and Richard Bona.
“Even if it’s my playlist, what’s wrong with listening to Burna Boy?
At home, my children listen to them. Davido sold out the State Farm in Atlanta; I want to achieve that, and I am inspired by them. I can’t say I don’t listen to them.
My friend’s children play, and I enjoy them too.
I like to listen to them and want to see what I can adapt to my music.
I need that African sound. I like to listen to all of them to see how I can always get better with my music,” he expressed.
In essence, Sonnie Badu emphasized the value of incorporating diverse sounds into his music, showcasing his openness to different musical influences to enhance his craft.
