MTV Europe Music Awards Postponed: Here’s The Reason Why It Was Postponed
The scheduled 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards, originally set for November 5th in Paris,
have been called off due to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza region involving Israel and Palestine.
The announcement came through an official press release from the EMAs on October 19, 2023.
The decision to cancel was made with the safety and well-being of everyone involved in mind,
including employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who were set to travel from different parts of the world for the event.
In their official statement,
The EMAs stated, “Given the current global uncertainties, we’ve opted not to proceed with the 2023 MTV EMAs as a precautionary measure for the multitude of individuals—employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners—joining from various corners of the globe.
While the MTV EMAs traditionally celebrate global music, the ongoing tragic events in Israel and Gaza make it an inappropriate time for a worldwide celebration.
With countless lives already impacted, this is a period of mourning. We look forward to the return of the MTV EMAs in November 2024″
Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.

The 2023 EMAs were highly awaited, notably
As it would have introduced the new Afrobeats category.
Esteemed Nigerian artists such as Asake, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema were nominated alongside Malian-born French singer Aya Nakamura.
