Top 5 Independent Nigerian Artist In Music Industry (SEE DETAILS)

The Nigerian music industry is one of the biggest music industries in Africa and the world, generating over 34 million dollars in revenue, so it’s no surprise that a lot of music talent keep coming up and making waves. One of the ways to get a platform that will push your uisic and career forward in Nigeria is by getting signed by a big record label but that is not our focus for today.

Today we shall be looking at Top 5 Nigerian artists who have been able to make strides on their own without having to be signed to a record label. These artists are currently independent and in no particular order, leggo!

 

FALZ

Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz, is a rapper, songwriter and actor. Before fame, he formed a group in secondary school called “The School Boys which launched his intentions to be an artist. He became well known after his song “Marry Me” with Yemi Alade and Poe started to gain audience. He currently owns an independent label called Bhad Guys Records and has gone on to release a couple of successful projects.

 

RIC HASSANI

Ikechukwu Eric Ahiauzu better known as Ric Hassani is a Nigerian singer, somgwriter and musician is one of Nigeria’s best pop and alternative singers. He released his debut singe in 2012 but didn’t get much attention, not until in December 2015 when he released the hit song “Gentleman” which was the first single off his debut album, “The African Gentleman” which was released in 2017. He owns his own record label “Riverland Records”

 

NONSO AMADI

He is a popular Nigerian singer songwriter and producer. He released his debut EP, Alone, in 2015 and later released a follow up singer “Tonight”, which was a massive hit worldwide. He has garnered a lot of international attention and has worked with various artists like Banky W, Maleek Berry, Juls, Simi and Mr. Eazi. He left the music scene for a while and came back with his first single of the year, “Foreigner” released on the 24th of February

BUJU (BNXN)

Daniel Benson, Professionally known as BNXN and formerly known as Buju is a Nigerian singer songwriter from Awka Ibom. He got his break when he got Zlatan Ibile to feature on his 2019 single, “Spiritual”. Although he was initially signed to Burna boy’s Spaceship Records in 2020, he decided not to renew his contract because he wanted to do things on his own. The decision has paid off for him so far as he has continued to record hit songs, release a commercially successful EP and even got to feature on Wizkid’s MIL album that got a Grammy nomination

 

 

BAD BOY TIMZ

Olorunyomi Oloruntimileyin professionally known as Bad Boy Timz is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Although he began his career under record label, Anonymous Music, a music group dedicated to promoting and marketing music artists in Nigeria, he later left the label after series of allegations of fraud levied against him. He finally had a settlement with the label and is now currently independent.
