Wizkid, a renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter, has added yet another achievement to his already impressive musical resume.
On Monday, August 29th, 2022, his fourth studio album, “Made in Lagos,” received a Gold certification in the US.
After selling more than 500,000 copies in the US, the Recording Industry Association of America certified the album as Gold.
By accomplishing this achievement, Wizkid becomes the first and only African artist to have his or her album certified as “Gold” in the United States and sell over 500,000 copies.
The remix of “Essence” by Tems and American pop sensation Justin Bieber was the album’s most popular track.
The song received the “Best Collaboration Award” at the 2020 BET Awards, making Wizkid (with Tems) the first African artist to ever take home a significant BET award.
The song had an incredible amount of success in the US; the Billboard Hot 100 chart showed its peak at number 9.
Made In Lagos featured successful songs and collaborations from Tems, Burna Boy, Damian Marley, Skepta, Ella Mai, H.E.R., and Buju, while Tems and Canadian singer Justin Bieber appeared in the remix of the song “Essence” alongside many other artists.
