Grammy 2022: Starboy Wizkid Loses 2 Grammy Nominations

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, was nominated for the 64th Grammy Awards but did not win in either of the two categories for which he was nominated.

Wizkid was nominated for Best Global Music Performance at the 2022 Grammys alongside fellow Nigerians Femi Kuti, Burna Boy, and Tems. Angelique Kidjo, a Beninese legend, was also nominated in the same category.

Along with Femi Kuti and Made Kuti’s Legacy +, Angelique Kidjo’s Mother Nature, and Rocky Dawumi’s Voice of Bunbon Volume, the self-acclaimed Starboy has his ‘Made In Lagos’ album nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 2022 Grammys.

Unfortunately, he lost both the Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album awards to Arooj Aftab and Angelique Kidjo, respectively.

Regardless, Wizkid won Best Music Video at the 63rd Grammy Awards last year, making him one of only a few African singers to win the prestigious prize.

Many had projected a double triumph for the artist in both categories, therefore his loss came as a shock to many.

The 64th Grammy Awards are being hosted today, Sunday, April 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
