Supermodel Naomi Campbell Calls Out Recording Academy After Wizkid Grammy Award Loss

British model and businesswoman, Naomi Campbell has on Tuesday reacted to the just concluded 64th Grammy Awards which saw Afrobeats artiste, Wizkid losing out on two nominations at the Awards held on Sunday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The 51-year-old supermodel in her post on Instagram said Wizkid’s album ‘Made In Lagos’ was beyond phenomenal, she praises the ‘Essence’ crooner as “King of the people” and his craft “means more than any academy of sort.”

In another slide, Campbell further shared a chart of Wizkid’s billboard achievements and how Essence buzzed not only in Africa but Nigeria.

Wizkid was nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category, recognising new vocal or instrumental Global music recordings but he lost the award to Arooj Aftab, ‘Mohabbat’.

He also received a second nomination in the Best Global Music Album category for albums containing at least 51% playing time of new vocal or instrumental Global Music recordings which was however won by Angelique Kidjo, ‘Mother Nature’

Campbell who asides her modelling career has also embarked on other ventures, including an R&B studio album informed the Recording Academy that their scam will never be forgotten even if they ignore 1.3 billion calling them over their injustice. She accused the academy of choosing to “tone deaf to what is going in the universe.”

The post reads “To my brother @wizkidayo ,#MadeinLagos was beyond a phenomenal album !! WINNER WITHOUT DOUBT !! You are the KING of the people , that has bought AFROBEATS mainstream , that means more than any academy of any sort .. ❤️🇳🇬🦅

@recordingacademy Once again you choose to be tone deaf to what is going in the universe

Changing World to Global is not Enough.. get up to speed on the state of all popular music

and include Afrobeats Artist of the Year, Song of the

Year, Album of the Year and all the subcategories that this

genre so deserves – just as an other respected and

recognized musical genre.

#MadeinLagos Album and song Essence ,

Was clearly in the wrong category how can you ignore the song Essence , The song by Wizkid , and Tems that was covered and remixed by Justin Bieber , you seem to isolate under global , when it should have been in song of the year category

This is a mis representation and a neglectful categorization of Music ONCE AGAIN . Give Afrobeats the representation it deserves . You are .Ignoring 1.3 billion people It will only make us Rise !! Afrobeats in our hearts Africabeats to the world !”
