14-year-old Champz (Boluwatife Balogun) dropped his first five-track debut EP, titled Champion’s Arrival, on November 11, 2025, and within five hours the project climbed to No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria’s Top Albums chart. He became the youngest artist to achieve this feat, and his journey so far has maintained the upward trajectory.
Champ’z music has resonated far beyond streaming numbers. His debut EP reportedly surpassed one million streams in under 24 hours, putting him in the spotlight with giants in the entertainment space.
In a recent interview with Glitch Africa, Champz opened up about the journey behind the project. He revealed that he started with making beats and writing songs long before fame found him. He admitted pressure sometimes lingers because of his father’s legacy, but insisted he is just 14 and has a long way to grow.
Interestingly, he described his sound not as a replication of legacy, but a fusion: a blend of Afro-fusions, rap, and UK-influenced rhythms. He said the genre represents both where he comes from and where he’s headed. Notably, he named UK rap acts such as J Hus, Asko, Nines, and Clavish as the main inspirations behind the EP’s sound.
Still, not everyone accepts the sudden rise without skepticism. Some social media users tagged him a “nepo baby,” implying his success stems primarily from his family name. Yet Champz addressed the criticism directly. He shrugged off the label, saying his focus remains on growth and authenticity.
Beyond charts and critics, real numbers validate his ascent. According to reports, he recently became the youngest African artist to surpass one million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Looking ahead, fans and industry watchers hope Champz will continue to deliver music that reflects his generation. With influences from both Afro-fusion and UK rap, he represents a new wave of young African artists blending culture, rhythm, and ambition. His full performance at Glitch Africa will be released later today. Are you ready to watch Champz live?
