Davido And Erigga’s Family Wealth Clash: Full Timeline Of The Feud

What started as a simple shoutout to self-made musicians has turned into one of Nigerian music’s biggest social media clashes this month. Davido and rapper Erigga have spent the past week trading pointed posts over family wealth, hustle, and what it really means to be self-made in the industry.

Between resurfaced old tweets, a new nickname, and fans picking sides across timelines, the disagreement has grown far beyond its original post. AfrobeatsGlobal breaks down everything said so far.

How The Davido And Erigga Feud Started

The clash began on September 1, 2026, when Erigga posted a shoutout on X to musicians who “don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.” His post did not name anyone directly.

However, Davido, who comes from a wealthy family, quoted the post two days later in Pidgin, writing that people should also shout out “the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top.” He went on to dismiss Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and called him an “imbecile.”

Davido Doubles Down And Erigga Claps Back

Davido kept going, suggesting he could eventually leave music behind to focus on “making his billions,” and later asked, “Deep down, who likes poverty?”

He also dug up an old Erigga tweet from the early 2020s expressing interest in a collaboration, captioning it “Ambassador for poverty.” In response, Erigga fired back with a series of five tweets, questioning why Davido felt targeted by a post that named nobody, accusing him of trying to bully or oppress him, and nicknaming him “Slovido.”

Davido continued pushing, later posting, “I go chop my own money… if e pain you go slap your poor papa,” further intensifying the back and forth.

Fans Take Sides As The Debate Grows Bigger

Reactions online have been split. Some fans sided with Erigga, arguing his original message was harmless motivation for artists who genuinely struggled financially.

Others backed Davido, maintaining that a privileged background does not erase the hard work required to build a lasting music career. Meanwhile, fans resurfaced an old clip of Davido describing how he once linked his billionaire father to a former World Bank president during a 2022 Qatar performance, using it to argue he remains deeply family oriented despite his wealth.

This was not Davido’s only heated social media exchange this week either, as he also traded words with Wande Coal over a shelved collaboration around the same time, pointing to an unusually combative stretch online for the singer.

Where Things Stand Now

As it stands, neither artist appears ready to let the disagreement go. Erigga has not dropped the “Slovido” nickname, and Davido has continued posting jabs days after the initial exchange.

The broader conversation the feud sparked, about privilege, hustle, and what “self-made” really means in Nigerian music, shows little sign of slowing down. Where do you stand on the Davido and Erigga debate?
