The clash began on September 1, 2026, when Erigga posted a shoutout on X to musicians who “don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.” His post did not name anyone directly.
However, Davido, who comes from a wealthy family, quoted the post two days later in Pidgin, writing that people should also shout out “the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top.” He went on to dismiss Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and called him an “imbecile.”

Davido kept going, suggesting he could eventually leave music behind to focus on “making his billions,” and later asked, “Deep down, who likes poverty?”

He also dug up an old Erigga tweet from the early 2020s expressing interest in a collaboration, captioning it “Ambassador for poverty.” In response, Erigga fired back with a series of five tweets, questioning why Davido felt targeted by a post that named nobody, accusing him of trying to bully or oppress him, and nicknaming him “Slovido.”

Davido continued pushing, later posting, “I go chop my own money… if e pain you go slap your poor papa,” further intensifying the back and forth.
