Wizkid Praises Asake as Blessing to African Music

Nigerian superstar Wizkid publicly praised Asake as a monumental force in the continent’s soundscape. During a recent Apple Music Radio interview, he said it was Asake’s Omo Ope that first made him a fan, but that Remember from Work of Art tops his playlist and should play at his wedding.

The compliment reaffirms Asake’s meteoric rise since joining Olamide’s YBNL Nation in 2022 and solidifies his place as a defining voice in modern African music.

Wizkid described him as “one of the most unique voices not just in Africa but in the world,” adding that he often tells him he is a genuine blessing to African music. Asake’s response, a grateful Alhamdulilahi, captured the moment’s humility and joy.

Asake broke out with tracks like “Lady” and Omo Ope, which drew the attention of label boss Olamide and secured a deal with YBNL Nation. His debut album, Mr. Money with the Vibe (2022), delivered multiple smash hits and debuted on the Billboard 200.

In addition, his sophomore album Work of Art (2023) showcased both depth and versatility. Featuring singles such as “Yoga,” 2:30, “Amapiano” (feat. Olamide), and Remember, the project blends Afro-fusion and afropop with Yoruba and English lyricism.

Tracks like “Lonely at the Top” also shattered streaming records, spending weeks atop Nigerian charts and gaining global attention. After Work of Art, Asake built on that momentum with his 2024 album Lungu Boy, featuring international collaborations with artists such as Wizkid, Travis Scott, and Stormzy.

His global footprint expanded with sold-out shows at major arenas and welcomed him into conversations about the future of Afrobeats worldwide. Wizkid’s recent shout-out isn’t just celebrity praise but recognition from one of Africa’s most influential artists.

In summary, Asake’s continued rise reflects a modern African artist shaping not just a continent’s sound but the world’s musical journey, and Wizkid’s praise for the artist confirms it.
