In October 2021, Tiwa Savage’s sex tape was released shortly after she broke the news that she was being blackmailed over the video. The release of the video is perhaps, the greatest scandal of her career, as many Nigerians took to various social media platforms to berate her for even attempting to make such a video.

Although many criticized her lifestyle, most of her fans and colleagues stood by her side with words of encouragement and support. A year after the issue, Tiwa Savage finally addressed it in her new chart-topping hit. She said,

“Awon blogger blogger ti won fe fi mi gba star (Bloggers who wanted to trend because of me)

Sex tape o le baye mi je (Sex tape cannot destroy my life)

Igbadun kekere yen (That small enjoyment)

Na who never fuck, hands in the air”

The verses have generated mixed reactions from social media users. Some praised her for addressing the scandal while others believed that she should have laid the matter to rest as everyone had forgotten about it.

Despite the reactions, the track is enjoying immense airplay and has proven to be an instant hit with fans. It topped the Nigerian Apple Music chart less than 24 hours after its release. The video of the hit song has also garnered over 1.5 million YouTube views in less than 48 hours.

It is safe to say that the infamous sex tape did not affect Tiwa Savage’s career in any way.
