VGA: Wizkid Failed To Show Up In Ghana To Receive “Best African Artiste Award” (WATCH)

 

The recently concluded Vodafone awards, the 23rd of its kind, was a very interesting one which honored Ghanaian’s finest artistes. The ceremony did not go down without some drama and awkward moments though. Unarguably, the most awkward moment of the show was when the winner of the award for Best African Artiste was announced on stage.

 

Wizkid defeated CKay, Fireboy DML, Tems, Joe boy and Focalistic to clinch the highly coveted award, but was nowhere to be found. The show organizers, audience and viewers at home watched awkwardly as the presenter, Prince David Osei, repeatedly called out Wizkid to receive his award. Unfortunately, they were left hanging.

Moments later, a co-presenter called Wizkid or his representative out again, to receive the award, but was also disappointed. The host and assistant had to awkwardly hold out the award plaque for some minutes, before leaving the stage.

Following the incidence, Wizkid has come under a lot of backlash from fans, mostly Nigerians, who berated him for his arrogance. Many people accused him of being bitter for losing his Grammy nominations, and felt that he should have been more grateful to receive a new award. His loyal fans, Wizkid FC, defended him, saying that he was was probably very busy.
