A day after the nominations list for the 15th edition of The Headies Awards was released, Portable took to his Instagram account to send a warning to the organizers and threats to his fellow nominees. The singer was nominated for two categories- “Rookie Of The Year” and “Best Street-Hop Artiste”.
For the Rookie Of The Year Awards, he was nominated against AV, Fave, Ugocci and Magixx. And for his second nomination, Best Street-Hop Artiste, his competitors are Naira Marley, Mohbad, Bella Shmurda and Goya Menor.
On Wednesday, he posted the controversial video of his threats online. Speaking in Yoruba, he said
“Those are my awards, anybody else who wins I will ask for them to be killed. I will ask them to kill the person. If the organizers give my award to someone else, they will die. No go give my award to another person, he go die o,”
Following his threats, Smooth Productions, the organizers of the awards, filed a police report against him. They also threatened to disqualify him if he didn’t apologize immediately. They made it known that they didn’t condone such behavior from nominees, and that he would face the consequences if he didn’t retract his words.
“Should Mr Okikiola fail to meet our demands, we will not only disqualify him from participating in The Headies but also enforce the instrumentality of the law.”
