Ruger Returns With New EP “R.U (Raw and Unfiltered) Vol. 1”

Ruger is back, and this time he is doing things entirely on his own terms. The Nigerian Afrobeats and Afro-dancehall star has released his new six-track EP, and AfrobeatsGlobal has everything you need to know about this deeply personal project.

A Title That Says Everything

The EP is called R.U., short for Raw and Unfiltered, and the title alone signals exactly where Ruger’s head is right now. In a statement accompanying the release, he explained that he had let other people’s opinions about his music hold him back for too long.

He described going back and forth with his own spirit before finally deciding to release music that truly reflects what he wants to say. The result is a project built on perseverance and a refusal to filter his art for anyone else.

Cross-Border Collaborations

R.U. (Raw and Unfiltered Vol. 1) features standout collaborations with Musa Keys, Young Stunna, and MC Morena, bringing a strong cross-border flavor to the project. These pairings continue Ruger’s pattern of blending Nigerian sounds with wider African influences.

Born Michael Adebayo Olayinka, Ruger broke into the scene in 2021 with his debut EP Pandemic, followed by The Second Wave. His reputation for dancehall-infused Afrobeats and unforgettable hooks has only grown since then.

His Most Personal Chapter Yet

Following his 2023 debut album RU The World and a joint project with BNXN in 2024, this new EP marks what many are already calling his most personal work to date. It shows an artist choosing authenticity over outside expectations.
