Olamide Inspired Victony to Turn ‘Stubborn’ Into His Debut Album
Nigerian singer and songwriter Victony has revealed that rap icon Olamide played a major role in shaping his upcoming debut album Stubborn. The Afrobeats star, whose real name is Anthony Ebuka Victor, shared the story during a recent listening session ahead of the project’s official release.
Originally planned as an EP, Stubborn has now been expanded into a full-length album after a pivotal conversation with the YBNL boss. According to Victony, Olamide encouraged him to take the leap and release a complete body of work while his fan base is fully engaged and eager for new music.
Victony explained that before dropping the lead single “Stubborn,” he visited Olamide to seek guidance as a younger artist looking for direction. What he expected to be a casual meeting turned into a defining career moment.
“Olamide told me that you should not wait until people stop asking for your music before you drop a full project,” Victony shared. “He made me realize that my fans understand me best through a complete body of work, not just singles.”

The advice struck a chord. Victony admitted he initially felt unsure about being “album-ready,” but the encouragement from Olamide pushed him to trust his growth and creative journey. That same day, he made the decision to officially turn Stubborn into his debut studio album.
Victony first gained national attention after his breakout collaboration with Mayorkun on the hit song Holy Father. He is currently signed to Mainland Block Party, the record label owned by Nigerian music executive Tobi Mohammed. Over the past few years, he has steadily built a reputation for emotional storytelling, genre-blending sound, and raw vulnerability.
The upcoming Stubborn album will feature 14 tracks and includes appearances from Asake, Shallipopi, Shorae Moore, Saint Jhn, and Teezo Touchdown. The project is expected to showcase Victony’s evolution as an artist while staying true to the honesty that has defined his music so far.
With Olamide’s mentorship and a strong lineup of collaborators, Stubborn is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Nigerian debut albums of the year.
