Jazzman Olofin Blasts Adekunle Gold Over Uncleared “Raise Da Roof” Performance

Music Legend, Jazzman Olofin, calls out Adekunle Gold in a strong public message after spotting footage of him rehearsing his song Raise Da Roof with a full live band ahead of his EFG London Jazz Festival performance.

The veteran singer slammed the rehearsal as a sign of disrespect because he was not contacted before the performance. Jazzman Olofin made clear he tolerates a quick or short performance of his song on stage with a tribute as a sign of respect. However, he draws the line at a full band rehearsal and planned performance without prior permission.

He questioned why Adekunle Gold would treat the classic as if it belonged to no one. He insisted he remains active and deserves recognition or compensation when his song resurfaces in major shows. In his words, “I may be a little too old to be singing your generation’s music, but I’m certainly not too old to spend the money.”

In addition, Jazzman Olofin reaffirmed he wrote “Raise Da Roof” and credited the Fuji legend, Adewale Ayuba, as a featured guest. He explained that the chorus and first two verses are his composition, while the guest added only a small line.

He made a public offer: next time, “call baba.” That statement resonated with many veteran artists who believe respect, legacy, and financial justice should guide modern performances. Younger artists often borrow from older hits to evoke nostalgia or market energy. Not acknowledging these veterans (originators) makes them feel overlooked.

In conclusion, Olofin’s bold stance puts a spotlight on generational respect and the need for proper processes in music playback and performance. He showed willingness to forgive a freestyle tribute, but rejected full-scale rehearsals without consent. What next steps would you advise Adekunle Gold to take as a fan?
