“I Left My Marriage Because I Was Contributing More Financially Than My Ex-hubby”-Yvonne Jegede
Renowned Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has candidly shared the reasons behind her decision to walk away from her marriage to fellow actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, revealing that financial imbalance and communication issues were central to their split.
In a teaser for the upcoming episode of the podcast ‘The Honest Bunch,’ Jegede reflected on her 2019 separation from Fawole, which occurred barely a year after their wedding. She disclosed that one of the critical factors in her decision to leave was the financial burden she shouldered, which was significantly greater than her husband’s contributions.
“I was contributing more financially than my ex-husband,” Jegede confessed, highlighting the strain this imbalance placed on their relationship. “Taking care of my son like nobody else existed around me was not easy.”
The actress also discussed the difficulties arising from their age difference and Fawole’s reaction to her attempts at humor. “He is eight years older than me. But once we got married, if I said something like, ‘You dey crease,’ he would take it as disrespect. It felt like he wasn’t the same person I married.”
Jegede expressed regret over choosing love over financial stability, hinting that this choice played a part in her struggles. “I would have gone for money instead of love,” she admitted, reflecting on the challenges she faced as the primary breadwinner in the marriage.
The insights shared by Jegede shed light on the complexities that can arise in marriages where financial responsibilities are unevenly distributed. Her openness about her experience has resonated with many, sparking conversations about the importance of financial compatibility and clear communication in relationships.
As Jegede continues to thrive in her career and raise her son, her story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of mutual support and understanding in a partnership. The upcoming episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ is expected to delve deeper into her experiences, offering more revelations about her personal journey and the lessons she has learned.
