FOLA Set to Revisit 2Baba’s “If Love Is a Crime” on “Crime”
Nigerian singer FOLA is set to give fans a fresh take on one of 2Baba’s most memorable love songs with his upcoming track, “Crime.”
The song is part of FOLA’s highly anticipated sophomore album, 9, which arrives on October 9, 2026. The official tracklist, released on October 7, confirms “crime” as the 11th track on the 14-song project.
FOLA Reimagines a 2Baba Classic
“Crime” incorporates a sample from 2Baba’s 2006 classic, “If Love Is a Crime,” originally released on his Grass 2 Grace album.
The original song has remained a standout from 2Baba’s catalogue, making FOLA’s decision to revisit it an interesting meeting point between two generations of Nigerian music.
FOLA had also teased the record earlier in the year, with reports revealing that he was spotted singing alongside 2Baba in a snippet shared in February.
2Baba Has Already Heard the New Version
What makes the upcoming release even more interesting is that 2Baba is already familiar with FOLA’s version.
The music icon previously praised the remake, describing FOLA’s vocals as “soft” and “smooth” and expressing his love for the younger singer’s interpretation.
That co-sign gives “crime” an extra layer of anticipation, especially as FOLA continues to establish himself as one of the newer voices carrying Nigerian Afrobeats forward.
“Crime” Is Part of FOLA’s 9
Beyond the 2Baba connection, 9 comes with an impressive lineup of collaborators. The album features Davido, Ayra Starr, BNXN, Darkoo, Bella Shmurda, and Zlatan across its 14 tracks.
The project follows FOLA’s debut album, catharsis, as he continues to build around the soulful and romantic sound that has become closely associated with his music.
With “Crime” connecting a Nigerian music classic to a new generation, FOLA could have one of the most talked-about moments on 9 when the album drops.
