Fireboy DML IMALI brings Nigeria and Southern Africa together on one record. The Nigerian singer has teamed up with JAZZWRLD and Thukuthela for the new single “IMALI,” released through YBNL Nation and EMPIRE.
The track also arrives with an official music video, giving the collaboration a visual extension.
Fireboy DML IMALI Explores 3-Step
Unlike some of Fireboy’s recent releases, “IMALI” leans into South Africa’s emerging 3-Step Afro House sound. JAZZWRLD handles the production, creating a rhythmic base for Fireboy’s melodic delivery. Thukuthela then adds another South African voice to the record.
As a result, the song feels like a meeting point between different African music scenes. The collaboration is also significant for JAZZWRLD and Thukuthela. Both artists have been building momentum within South Africa’s 3-Step and Afro House movement.
Their work on “The Most Wanted” has also helped raise their profile within the country’s dance music space.
A Cross-Border African Collaboration
“IMALI” focuses on money, ambition, and the pursuit of success. Those themes fit naturally into the energetic production.
More importantly, the song highlights how African artists are increasingly moving across regional sounds.
Fireboy has already explored different musical spaces through Afrobeats, R&B, and Caribbean influences. Now, he adds a South African dance sound to the mix.
The release also comes after his collaboration with Jamaican artist Masicka on “CLAAT!” For AfrobeatsGlobal, “IMALI” is another example of African artists building connections beyond borders.
