Breaking News – D’banj Arrested and Detained by ICPC for Fraud

Nigerian singer/songwriter and media personality, Oladapo Oyebanji, popularly known as D’banj, has been arrested and detained by the ICPC for fraudulent activities.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), arrested and detained D’banj on Tuesday after he was forced to surrender himself at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

For weeks, he had dodged summons from the ICPC for interrogations over the allegations of fraud. Insiders revealed that he claimed to be outside the country for scheduled concerts whenever he was invited. However, D’banj was finally forced to show up at the commission’s office on Tuesday, after the ICPC moved to arrest him anywhere in Nigeria and abroad.

D’banj was accused of fraudulently diverting millions of Naira earmarked by the Nigerian government for N-power project, an empowerment project established in 2016 to increase social development and alleviate youth unemployment.

The ICPC alleged that he connived with some government officials to set up ghost accounts and beneficiaries into the payroll of the project. After some investigations, the monies paid into the beneficiary accounts were linked to him.

At the commission’s office, D’banj was subjected to a long session of interrogation after which he was detained. His plea for bail was rejected by officials because they didn’t trust him to attend his trial if released on bail.

He is to be charged to court very soon.
