Former U.S. President Barack Obama has unveiled his annual favorite music picks for 2023, and it’s a celebration of global sounds. On his curated list of 27 tracks, Nigerian afrobeat sensations such as Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake take the spotlight.
Among the notable mentions are Nigerian songstress Tems and UK-born Ghanaian rapper Stormzy. Davido’s “Unavailable,” Burna Boy’s collaboration with 21 Savage, “Sitting on Top of the World,” and Asake’s “Amapiano” featuring Olamide all secured spots on Obama’s prestigious list.
Rounding up the representation of African talent, Tems’ “Me & U” and Stormzy’s “Toxic Trait” complete the lineup.
Obama’s diverse musical choices reflect the global influence and appeal of African artists and those with African descent.
