Akuvi and Soulbase release empowering single 'I Know Who I Am'

Sometimes, knowing your worth means walking away. Ghanaian-Norwegian singer Akuvi explores this message in her new single, I Know Who I Am. The record features longtime collaborator Soulbase.

Released on October 29, 2026, the song explores self-worth, personal boundaries, and emotional growth. AfrobeatsGlobal takes a closer look at the new release.

Akuvi ‘I Know Who I Am’ explores self-worth.

Written by Akuvi and produced by Soulbase, the record draws inspiration from a broken relationship.

Rather than focusing on conflict, Akuvi explores the importance of protecting personal peace. She also highlights the confidence needed to walk away from situations that no longer serve you.

Musically, the song blends R&B, Afrobeats, and hip-hop influences. A simple guitar melody sits alongside heavy bass.

Furthermore, Akuvi’s distinctive raspy vocals give the record its emotional character. The chorus also features group vocals assembled from more than 30 recording takes.

Interestingly, the voices include Akuvi, Soulbase, his wife and son, alongside the sound engineer.

A new chapter ahead of her upcoming album

The release offers the first preview of Akuvi’s forthcoming album. The project is expected in spring 2027.

Her musical identity reflects influences from different backgrounds. With roots in Ghana’s Volta Region and an upbringing in northern Norway, she brings different cultural experiences into her sound.

Additionally, her previous EP, Afrobeats for Emotional Gangsters, surpassed one million streams across platforms.

Akuvi has also built a career beyond music. She voiced Dolores in Disney’s animated film Encanto and Karma in Netflix’s Karma’s World.

Her growing creative profile makes this latest release another interesting step.

With I Know Who I Am, Akuvi delivers a message about self-respect and personal identity. The song also introduces listeners to the direction of her next album.

AfrobeatsGlobal continues to spotlight African artists bringing fresh sounds and meaningful stories to the music scene.
