Ex BBNaija Housemate, Mike Edwards, Represents Nigeria at Commonwealth games. (Watch)
The 2022 Commonwealth games is ongoing and for the first time in 56 years, Nigeria has a representative for the high jump category. The athlete making the jump for Nigeria and Africa at large is none other than ex BBNaija star, Mike Edwards.
This is his first time at the Commonwealth game. Although Mike wanted to represent Nigeria in the same game in 2018, he was banned and declared ineligible for representing Great Britain at the 2009 European Junior Championship.

However, his ban was later revoked. In June, Mike won Nigeria’s first high jump medal, silver, at the African Championships which took place in Mauritius.
Hoping to add another medal to his collection, Mike broke a 56-year old record by representing Nigeria in the high jump category at the 2022 Birmingham commonwealth games. Alas, the 32-year-old athlete was unable to clinch a medal. He however finished sixth in his category, jumping an impressive height of 2.19m.
Taking to his Instagram account, he shared a video of his performance at the event. His wife, Perri Shakes-Drayton and 2-year-old son were also spotted in the audience, cheering him on. Mike got married to Perri, a British athlete, few weeks before entering the Big Brother house in 2018.
Congratulations Mike!
