Young Jonn “Shege” Lyrics & Meaning

Young Jonn "Shege" Lyrics

Young Jonn is back with another emotional record, and this time, he is singing about what happens when love starts feeling more like punishment than peace.

“Shege” is the third track on Young Jonn’s Dear London EP, a seven-track project released in September 2026. The song blends Afrobeats with Nigerian Pidgin and Yoruba expressions as Young Jonn reflects on heartbreak, disappointment, and finally choosing to walk away.

Meaning of the Young Jonn Shege Lyrics

Shege Lyrics by Young Jonn | Notjustok

Shege is a heartfelt song about heartbreak and disappointment. The singer feels mistreated and abandoned by someone he loves. Consequently, he chooses to walk away and protect his peace.

The song opens with Young Jonn setting an emotional tone before moving into a catchy chorus built around the repeated phrase “you show me shege.”

In Nigerian Pidgin, “shege” is commonly used to describe hardship, trouble, stress, or an unpleasant situation.

So when Young Jonn says someone has “show me shege,” he is essentially saying that the person has put him through serious emotional stress or hardship.

That meaning becomes clearer as the song progresses. He describes being left out in the cold emotionally, feeling unwanted, and dealing with an attitude that repeatedly breaks his heart.

Throughout the verses, he talks about being emotionally frustrated by someone whose attitude has repeatedly hurt him. He also questions whether the other person ever truly loved him, especially when the feelings were clearly not being returned.

The song then returns to its infectious chorus, making “Shege” easy to sing along to despite its heartbreak theme.
