Victony Reveals How Olamide Inspired His Debut Album Stubborn

Nigerian singer and songwriter Victony has revealed that rap icon Olamide played a major role in shaping his decision to release Stubborn as a full-length album rather than an EP.

Speaking at a private listening session ahead of the project’s release, the “Soweto” hitmaker explained that Stubborn was originally planned as a shorter body of work. However, a personal conversation with Olamide — founder of YBNL Nation — changed everything.

According to Victony, Olamide advised him not to delay putting out a major project when fans are actively anticipating new music. The encouragement gave the singer the confidence to move forward with Stubborn as his official debut album.

Victony said the rapper reminded him that timing is everything in music, and that artists should release albums when the audience is emotionally invested. That message, he noted, pushed him to stop doubting himself and trust his creative growth.

Born Anthony Ebuka Victor, Victony first gained national attention after his collaboration with Mayorkun on the hit song Holy Father. He is currently signed to Mainland Block Party, a record label owned by Nigerian music executive Tobi Mohammed.

The 14-track Stubborn album features notable artists including Asake, Shallipopi, Shorae Moore, Saint Jhn, and Teezo Touchdown. With this project, Victony officially steps into album mode, showcasing his evolution as one of Nigeria’s most promising new-generation stars.
