Stream BOJ featuring Mr Eazi and Davido on Abracadabra
In a rare meeting of top tier talent, Alte pioneer BOJ has drawn on two of the biggest African stars on the planet, Mr Eazi and Davido, to lay down a summer jam destined for instant classic status titled “Abracadabra“.
Boj is the stage name for Nigerian singer Bolaji Ojudokan. Initially of the group DRB whose other members he met while in college in Worcestershire, Boj became noticed for his singing. Born to a small family where he was an only child for nearly a decade, his music was influenced by his mother’s taste, which went from Lagbaja, Fela to Lauryn Hill, Wyclef and Bob Marley.
Boj studied Audio Engineering and is considered to have quite a different sound from mainstream pop. He is frequently compared to Ajebutter 22 and Falz, both of whom he has collaborated with, the basis of the comparison having to do with a distinct sound as with a privilege background.
In 2013, Boj released a mictape #BOTM (Boj on the Microphone) which saw some success. He has recorded with Davido, Reminisce, Show Dem Camp and Olamide. Although with a handful of solo singles and no official album, he became the first artist to be nominated in the same category at the Headies.
BOJ opens the track by weaving a spell over the object of his affection, (hence the ‘Abracadabra’ of the title). Davido then jumps in with an endlessly catchy hook that’s set to shut down dances from Lagos to London, with Mr Eazi coming through to lace the second verse with his inimitably melodic flow. The end result is three artists at the top of their game.
