Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has reacted strongly after Wizkid referred to him as a “fool at 40,” further intensifying their ongoing social media clash. The exchange has ignited widespread debate across X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms, drawing in fans from both camps.
The tension escalated after Wizkid finally addressed weeks of criticism from Seun Kuti, who had repeatedly taken shots at both the singer and his fanbase, known as Wizkid FC. Seun, the son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has accused Wizkid’s supporters of disrespecting his father’s legacy by calling Wizkid the “New Fela.”
He has also questioned Wizkid’s musical depth, claiming the Grammy-winning artist lacks spiritual substance in his sound. In addition, Seun argued that Wizkid’s fanbase does not have the same stadium-filling power as Davido’s 30BG or Burna Boy’s Outsiders.
On January 20, Wizkid responded with a series of fiery posts on social media, launching personal attacks at Seun Kuti. Among the comments, Wizkid referred to him as a “fool at 40,” a phrase that quickly went viral and became the focal point of the feud.
Wizkid also mocked Seun’s relevance in today’s music scene, escalating the rivalry from artistic debate to personal confrontation.
Seun Kuti wasted no time responding. He clapped back at Wizkid with his own series of posts, mocking the singer’s stature and telling him to stop attaching himself to Fela Kuti’s legacy.
He also addressed viral jokes about his father’s iconic trousers, popularly nicknamed “Pata Gigan,” revealing that a major bank reportedly spent millions of naira to feature the outfit in a campaign—countering efforts to ridicule Fela’s image.

In one of his posts, Seun wrote:
“Just be yourself. You are also great. Why you dey delete? Who really no get mind?”

The feud has divided fans online. Supporters of Wizkid have praised him for finally responding, while others believe both artists should de-escalate and focus on their music. Meanwhile, Seun Kuti’s fans continue to defend Fela’s legacy and Afrobeat’s historical importance.
As of now, neither Wizkid nor Seun Kuti has backed down, and the public back-and-forth remains one of the most talked-about celebrity clashes in Nigerian music this week.
