Lawal Olanrewaju (Stage name: LANRAY), I’m a songwriter, Story-telling rapper, Afro-Poet based in Lagos.
Usually, people start with their background and how they have been making music since they were kids and they started singing when they were in church so they knew they had the gift.
No! I grew up listening to rap music and re-writing them then rapping along to rappers like 50 cents, Eminem, 2 Shotz, Eldee, E.T.C. In 2009 when Drake and J.cole came up and changed the face of rap music I started to believe in myself that this is what I can do and I have deep personal issues both family and personal to be able to relate with people.
My musical influences are vast from Lauryn Hill to Bob Marly to Nickleback, down to J.Cole 50 Cent, Fela, Mojeed, E.T.C. I love poetry and I write a lot of poems: these poems improve the creativity and help improve my lyrics and the type of songs I make.
I just released my debut EP titled Art Gallery Through My Pen and it’s a good listen.
