Baba Suwe: 6 Facts to Know About Late Baba Suwe

Babatunde Omidina, also known as Baba Suwe, was a prominent Yoruba comedian and performer who died on Monday at the age of 63.

1. On August 22, 1958, Baba Suwe was born.

2. He grew up on Lagos Island but is from Lagos State’s Ikorodu local government area.

3. He gained popularity after appearing in Olaiya Igwe’s 1997 film Iru Esin.

4. He was accused of cocaine trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in 2011, an allegation that the Lagos High Court ruled was false and defamatory. Bamidele Aturu, a lawyer and human rights activist, was his lawyer.

5. He was rumored to have died in August 2020, however, his family members later disputed the rumor.

6. He starred in and produced a number of films, including Baba Jaiye Jaiye, which starred Funke Akindele and Femi Adebayo, the son of famous actor Adebayo Salami.

Nigerians had already chastised Baba Suwe Son for posting a video of his father’s body on social media while mourning him.

Baba Suwe died on November 22, and his son shared a video of himself grieving next to his father’s lifeless body on social media.

However, other Nigerians viewed the son’s sharing of images of the legend’s body as sacrilegious and foolish, and he was humiliated online as a result.
